PROGRAMS

November 12-13, 1995.

The Ensemble's season begins with Music from Versailles, a program of chamber music in the obsessively refined French style. The program will include Marin Marais's brilliant variations on Les Folies d'espagne, N. Clèrambault's Medèe, and François Couperin's Les Goûts Rèunis, works which display the French musicians' dynamic fusion of passion and refinement. Soprano Patrice Michaels Bedi will be featured soloist.

January 21-22, 1996.

J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel produced some of the Baroque era's most satisfying masterworks; a program of their music always feels like coming home. Our selection includes J. S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #5, Handel's cantata Mi palpita il cor, and transcriptions of Handel opera selections recently discovered in a private collection in England by flautist Anita Miller-Reider. Countertenor Mark Crayton will be soloist.

March 10-11, 1996.

Nymphs of the Rhine. Viola da gamba virtuosa Mary Springfels and soprano Christine Brandes join Chicago Baroque Ensemble for a recital of German and French works featuring the luscious sounds of two and three viols. The program includes Montèclair's Le Trionfe de la constance, and a sonata from Johann Schenk's Nymphs of the Rhine.

Sunday performances begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Michigan Shores Club, 911 North Michigan, in Wilmette. Refreshments following; free parking.

Monday performances begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Union League Club, 65 West Jackson Boulevard, in Chicago, and end promptly at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments are served at 5:00 p.m.
