Monday, March 16, 8:00 p.m.

Chicago Baroque Ensemble Live on WFMT Radio Works of J.-B. Lully, with soprano Patrice Michaels Bedi. Tune your dial to 98.7.

Jean-Baptiste Lully was the most admired, beloved, feared, and influential musician of the age of Louis XIV. For a century after his death, the exquisitely crafted music of Lully's opulent court entertainments continued to be heard both in theatrical revivals and in intimate chamber music settings. Our progam presents intimate arrangements of Lully's elegantly wistful love songs, gracious dances, and impassioned operatic scenes, as well as two eloquent memorials composed by Lully's colleagues.

Sunday, March 29, 2:00 p.m.

The Art Institute of Chicago will present Chicago Baroque Ensemble in a program of seventeenth-century Italian music

In conjunction with the Art Institute's special exhibition, "Bernini's Rome: Italian Baroque Terracottas from the State Hermitage." The princes of the church who sponsored the great building projects of baroque Rome, were also lovers and patrons of music. Chamber music created for their households and academies reflects many of the same themes that inspire the visual arts of the age: ecstasy, piety, love, and passion for the beauty and mystery of the Eternal City. Our program features vocal and instrumental works by Alessandro Stradella, Dario Castello, Arcangelo Corelli and others.

J. S. Bach: Suite, Sonatas, and Arias

The program will feature CBE Artistic Director John Mark Rozendaal in a rare performance of Bach's Suite #6 in D-major composed for five-stringed violoncello piccolo. Other highlights will be arias (some with violoncello piccolo accompaniments) sung by tenor Alan Bennett; violin sonatas performed by Jeri-Lou Zike; and organ accompaniments performed by Stephen Alltop on the Klop chamber organ. Bach's rarely-heard late works for violoncello piccolo include some of his most profound, ecstatic music.

Deleware, Chicago. o The Sunday, January 4 and May 17 performances begin at 4:00 at The Unitarian Church of Evanston, 1330 Ridge Avenue, Evanston. o Monday performances begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Union League Club, 65 West Jackson Boulevard, in Chicago, and end promptly at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments are served at 5:00 p.m. Parking facilities are available directly behind the Clubhouse.
